Scottland beat Herentals by a goal to nil, leaving coach Tonderai Ndiraya a relieved man after a three-game winless run that had seen his side settle for draws.

Mabviravira, as Scottland is affectionately known by its legion of supporters, finally broke the stalemate streak thanks to a decisive goal from Tymon Machope, securing all three points for the hosts. Ironically, it was Herentals who looked more dominant in the first half, with Scottland often chasing shadows.

The hosts’ only real chance in the opening 45 minutes came when Khama Billiat found himself in a promising position, but his tame shot was comfortably gathered by the Herentals goalkeeper.Ndiraya’s halftime pep talk proved crucial. Scottland returned to the pitch more energised, with tactical changes that turned the tide.

The coach introduced Mutimbanyoka and fan favourite Vasilli “Spanish Chewe” Kawe in place of Chikuhwa and Emmanuel Saidi. Just five minutes later, the changes bore fruit as Tymon Machope clinically converted a pass from captain Walter Musona.Herentals, known as the Students, pushed hard for an equaliser but were denied by a resolute Scottland defence. The hosts nearly doubled their lead in the 74th minute when Musona’s well-struck volley rattled the woodwork.Despite creating several chances, Herentals were their own worst enemies.

Tinotenda Benza was particularly wasteful, missing clear-cut opportunities that could have changed the game’s complexion. The win elevated Scottland to third place on the log standings with 16 points. However, their celebrations were dampened by an injury to defender Peter Muduhwa, who suffered a head clash and was forced off.Speaking after the match, Herentals coach Paul Benza remained upbeat. “I’m happy with how the boys played.

Unfortunately, we didn’t convert our chances and got punished, but overall, we managed to contain them. We could have won this game,” he said.Tonderai Ndiraya summed up his mood in one line: “It’s a relief in the dressing room. We are happy to collect maximum points.”
