VP Chiwenga Lands in Tehran to Boost Zimbabwe-Iran Trade Ties

Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga has arrived in Tehran, Iran, ahead of the Third Iran-Africa Economic Conference, which officially opens this Sunday. The high-level meeting offers African nations, including Zimbabwe, a vital opportunity to strengthen cooperation with Iran, review progress on existing agreements, and chart new paths for future economic engagement.

Touching down early Sunday morning at Mehrabad Airport, Vice President Chiwenga was warmly welcomed by Iran’s Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare, Dr Ahmad Meydari, alongside Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Iran, His Excellency Bright Kupemba. During his stay, the Vice President is expected to meet Iran’s top leadership and key business representatives, while also attending the 7th Iran Expo 2025.

Zimbabwe’s delegation, led by Vice President Chiwenga, is focusing on advancing cooperation in critical sectors such as medical industries, tourism, mining, manufacturing, agriculture, small and medium enterprises, and education. According to Zimbabwe’s Embassy in Tehran, tobacco remains Zimbabwe’s top export to Iran, earning the country over US$100 million annually, followed closely by horticultural products and other goods.

Zimbabwe’s participation at the Iran-Africa Economic Conference is set to consolidate growing bilateral ties and unlock new market opportunities for Zimbabwean products and services, deepening economic relations beyond traditional diplomatic links and strengthening Zimbabwe’s global trade presence.
