HARARE – The Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) has secured a timely US$10,000 sponsorship package from local firm Ponera Construction Company, just days before the start of the 2025 season.
The deal comes as a major relief following uncertainty after last season’s sponsor, The Heart Group, opted not to renew its partnership. With the new season set to begin this weekend, the league now has fresh backing to support its operations and boost women’s football development in the country.
ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi welcomed the sponsorship, saying it marks a vital step forward for the sport.
“This partnership will help us take a significant step forward in promoting women’s football in Zimbabwe. This is the support we need to produce continental and global stars, and we are eager to collaborate with others to make it happen,” said Magwizi.
ZWPSL Chairperson Theresa Maguraushe also expressed gratitude for the sponsorship, emphasizing its importance in empowering local talent.
“We are grateful for the support from Ponera Construction Company. This sponsorship will enable us to provide a better platform for our teams and players to showcase their talents for growth and development of women’s football in Zimbabwe,” she said.
The new season kicks off with a marquee fixture on Saturday as defending champions Herentals Queens face former champions Black Rhinos Queens at One Commando Stadium. The match promises to be a high-intensity encounter as both sides begin their title campaigns.
Other notable matches this weekend include the Bulawayo derby between Mpopoma Sports Academy and Highlanders Royals, while Faith Drive Academy hosts Kwekwe Queens at Chisamba Grounds.
Conduit Soccer Academy will face Chapungu Queens at Manyame Sports Club, Maningi Queens take on Sheasham Gweru at The Heart Stadium, Correctional Queens meet Black Mambas at Wagadhugu, and Red Buffalo Queens battle Cranborne Royals at Vengere.
The weekend action wraps up on Sunday with Platinum Royals clashing against Harare City Queens at Mandava Stadium.
