Holy Cross Conference Centre Boosts Tourism and Community Development in Chirumhanzu

The Holy Cross Conference Centre and Tourism Resort project in Chirumanzu is making significant progress, with the first phase set for completion by April this year.

The development, which includes a modern conference centre, a bar, and ten chalets, is expected to be fully operational by May.

Project supervisor Mr. Shepherd Hloma confirmed that all materials are now on-site, and the construction team is working diligently to meet the deadline. The project’s impact on the local community is already visible, with job creation, skills development, and economic empowerment being some of the key benefits.

Local residents have shared testimonies of how the project has transformed their lives. One community member noted that working on the project had allowed him to build a house, buy cattle, and afford school fees for his children.

Another worker highlighted that they had gained valuable skills in plumbing and construction, which have opened new career opportunities. Women have also benefited, with single mothers like one worker expressing gratitude for equal employment opportunities in the project.

The government’s tourism expansion strategy is playing a crucial role in supporting projects like the Holy Cross Centre.

Tourism Minister, Hon. Barbra Rwodzi, emphasized the importance of leveraging Zimbabwe’s water bodies for economic growth, citing the Holy Cross Dam as a key asset in attracting visitors. The government aims to maximize tourism potential and international exposure by developing infrastructure around such locations.

Zimbabwe’s tourism sector has been on an upward trajectory, contributing 12% to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) last year.

With strategic investments and community involvement, projects like Holy Cross Conference Centre are set to further boost local economies, create jobs, and enhance Zimbabwe’s tourism appeal.
