Dynamos FC claimed their first silverware of 2025 after edging Simba Bhora 5-3 on penalties in the Castle Challenge Cup final at Rufaro Stadium. The dramatic encounter, played in rainy conditions, saw Dynamos rally late to force a shootout before sealing victory.

Book NowThe match ended 1-1 in regulation time, with Isheanesu Mauchi putting Simba Bhora ahead in the 47th minute. However, Dynamos’ new signing Clive Mandiveyi struck an 87th-minute equalizer to send the contest to penalties.
In the decisive shootout, Dynamos converted all five of their spot-kicks, with Temptation Chiwunga, Emmanuel Jalai, Donald Dzvinyai, Clive Mandiveyi, and Abel Gwatidzo finding the net. Simba Bhora’s Ismael Nyanhi was the only player to miss, as Blessing Moyo, Harrison Masina, and Never Tigere scored for the Shamva-based club.
The victory marked Dynamos coach Lloyd Chigowe’s second major trophy, following their Chibuku Super Cup triumph last November, which earned them a spot in the Castle Challenge Cup final.
“It’s always good to start the season with a medal,” Chigowe said. “When you introduce youngsters and they make an impact, any coach will be proud.”
The gaffer handed debuts to three new signings—Blessing Dziwo, Ghanaian striker Frank Agmeyang, and Mandiveyi—while also introducing Brendan Jerimani and Enasio Perezo Junior in the second half.
Meanwhile, Simba Bhora coach Joel Lupahla remained optimistic despite the loss. “Penalties can go either way, and unfortunately today it wasn’t in our favor,” he said. “This match has helped us build towards the new season.”
Simba Bhora fielded seven new players, including goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga and striker William Manondo, whose debut goal was ruled offside.
Dynamos will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for the start of the league campaign, while Simba Bhora will aim to regroup ahead of their season opener against FC Platinum at Wadzanai Stadium next weekend.
