Remembering Soul Jah Love: Three Years Since the Zimdancehall Icon’s Passing

Today marks three years since the passing of Zimdancehall legend Soul Jah Love, born Soul Musaka, who left an indelible mark on Zimbabwe’s music industry.

The late musician, who passed away on February 16, 2021, was declared a national hero, a rare honor for an artist, in recognition of his influence on local music and culture.

Soul Jah Love was a powerhouse in Zimdancehall, delivering hit songs such as Pamamonya Ipapo, Ndini Uya Uya, and Kana Ndafa. His music, often reflecting themes of struggle, resilience, and hope, resonated deeply with Zimbabwean youths, especially those from the ghetto. Despite battling diabetes and facing personal challenges, he remained a dominant figure in the music industry.

His signature chant, Chibaba Chacho, became a symbol of his bold and energetic stage presence. Even after his passing, his music continues to inspire upcoming artists and fans who celebrate his legacy.

On this day, tributes continue to pour in from fans, fellow musicians, and national leaders, remembering Soul Jah Love not only as an entertainer but as a voice of the people. His contributions to Zimdancehall and Zimbabwean culture remain timeless.

(Rest in Power, Chibaba!)
