Harare, 10 February 2025 – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to national development, modernization, and industrialization, calling on citizens to uphold unity, patriotism, and servant leadership.
He made these remarks at the burial of the late National Hero, Tinaye Elisha Nzirasha Chigudu, at the National Heroes’ Acre on Saturday.
Addressing mourners, the President highlighted the importance of national resilience, urging Zimbabweans to remain focused on achieving Vision 2030. He emphasized the role of hard work, discipline, and unity in transforming Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.
“No amount of economic chicanery, mudslinging, and discord should be allowed to derail our irreversible course to modernize, industrialize, and develop our country. We are marching forward ever, backwards never,” he said.
He underscored the need for citizens to actively contribute to national development by working together across all sectors. He encouraged a collective approach to economic growth, emphasizing that Zimbabwe’s prosperity lies in the hands of its people.
“In every sector, province by province, let us remain focused, disciplined, and work harder towards the attainment of Vision 2030,” he stated.
President Mnangagwa also called for peace, tolerance, and unity among Zimbabweans, recognizing these as critical elements for sustainable socio-economic progress. He urged citizens to remain vigilant in safeguarding the country’s independence and development gains.
“Meanwhile, let us continue to embrace unity, peace, love, and tolerance, for those with divergent views. These are the defining features of our country’s national virtues,” he added.
As Zimbabwe moves forward, the President reiterated that national progress must be driven by patriotism and self-reliance. He urged all sectors, including government, the private sector, and communities, to work hand in hand to build a stronger and more prosperous nation.
The late National Hero Chigudu was honored for his lifelong commitment to Zimbabwe’s independence and post-liberation development. His legacy, the President said, should inspire all citizens to serve with integrity, dedication, and a focus on national interests.
The burial ceremony was attended by senior government officials, service chiefs, veterans of the liberation struggle, and members of the diplomatic community.
