By Godfrey M Bonda

Zimbabwean WingChun Maestro was inspired by Bruce Lee Leonard Nyamukapa is from Murehwa but lives in Chitungwiza. He started training Jeet Kune Do in 2006 in Chitungwiza .

“As you know Jeet Kune Do was introduced by Bruce Lee ,”said Sifu Leo. He was inspired by Bruce then went to find out what other styles which Bruce Lee used to train. He found out that he trains Wingchun as student of Ipman . Sifu Leo got more interest into it because it is designed for close combat so he started learning through YouTube .

Sifu Leo during a whatsapp interview he said, “in 2016 I got a chance to go to China and that’s where I met wingchun masters and I learned traditional wingchun. Traditional wingchun to me has no much impact ,then I started to learn again on my own copying the Master Wong Wingchun System which is very effective for me.

It was very expensive to train online courses with Master Wong but I got help from other students to start training with him, he added.Master Wong saw great potential in me so after paying my first lessons he promised me to learn everything from him for free.

Sifu Leo added that in 2022 there was a instructors course and he participated and become one of the best instructors. Besides being a WingChun Maestro , Sifu Leo has passion in security because he used to train people in security sector so with his qualifications in self defense he chose to be qualified again in Close Protection. Sifu stated that he did his Close Protection course in South Africa at Milites Dei Academy ,were he also received a Head student Instructor certificate in Close quarter combat,SWAT .

“As you know martial arts is a way of life discipline and health are the main reason we train martial arts so I spread the same words to youngsters. Where I live we preach about zero tolerance to drugs, to our youngsters at one point we did a anti drug campaign”, he added. “Say no to violence though people especially in Africa think that if they see someone training he wants to fight someone, thats not what we preach”, said Sifu. Fighting is the last option, the best win from an argument is to make sure you avoid fighting.

My mantra on this is if you need peace you have to prepare for war , he said.( Manhede Chronicles)
