In what the Trump administration has called a “common sense” order, the government will recognize only two sexes, ending federal funding or recognition of gender identities. This move marks a significant shift in Africa, where some foreign aid was previously conditioned on accepting LGBTQ rights.
Zimbabwe in 2013, amended the Constitution to define marriage as being between a man and a woman. President Mnanagwa in 2019 approved amendments to the marriage law which banned both child marriages and same-sex marriages, lining it with the Constitution. The pronouncement by President Trump dovetails with Zimbabwe and other African countries’ stance on homosexuality.
In Uganda, President Museveni faced threats of sanctions over the Homosexuality Bill Act 2023, which outlawed LGBTQ activities and imposed jail sentences for those who practice or promote LGBTQ culture.
Many African leaders accepted LGBTQ rights in exchange for trade and development aid from the West, prioritizing financial support and avoiding sanctions over their traditional values of Ubuntu.
It is common sense that LGBTQ is not a generic but physiological way of recapturing the people from their belief to a belief that does not consider the future, and it is so pathetic that even some of the African leaders support the LGBTQ.
The declaration by President Donald Trump for only two sexes is a major relief to Uganda, which was being threatened with sanctions by the Biden administration. At the same time, the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, does not hesitate to affirm his stance on God’s creation and the culture of his native land, Uganda, and Africa at large. This serves as a lesson to African leaders not to bow down to Western donations that are attached with various conditions against our African cultures.
It boggles the mind that even some churches embrace LGBTQ+ against the Bible, despite being the custodians of the Word. Additionally, some church leaders have accepted LGBTQ+ due to financial gain, suggesting they either did not receive the calling or are akin to Judas Iscariot.
The United Methodist Church passed a resolution at their conference in America, while the Roman Catholic Church expressed support for blessing LGBTQ+ marriages. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is set to recognize only two genders, male and female, which is expected to weaken the relationship between the Vatican and the American president.
It’s a disgrace to Africa that they cannot defend their Ubuntu against Western powers, as they anticipate receiving donations, trade support, and loans which they often fail to repay. Each country has the potential to thrive on its own, as Africa is a rich continent with abundant agricultural and mineral resources. The question now is whether they will continue to receive trade support and loans, or if that marks the end of all funding tied to LGBTQ+ issues.
Today, people across the world—Hindus, Christians, and Muslims—are celebrating the declaration by Donald Trump against LGBTQ+ as a victory. The Biden administration sought to dominate globally by imposing LGBTQ+ ideologies, which many believe create individuals who fail to consider the future.
LGBTQ+ was never a human right but a gross human rights abuse. They were allowed to adopt while not supporting family policies that force a child born from a woman to call a man “mother” or vice versa, which is taboo.
