ZPC Hwange, who earned promotion to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) by winning the Southern Region Division One title, has sold their franchise to MWOS FC, the 2024 Northern Region Division One runners-up.
MWOS FC stumbled in the final stages of last season, relinquishing their chance for promotion to the PSL to Scottland Football Club.
MWOS FC has secured a spot in the PSL by purchasing ZPC Hwange’s franchise. The Zimbabwe Power Company, which sponsors both ZPC Hwange and ZPC Kariba, faced a challenging situation when ZPC Hwange qualified for the PSL, leaving them with the financial burden of supporting two teams in the same league. This led to the decision to sell the franchise, with MWOS taking advantage of the opportunity.
The agreement between ZPC Hwange and MWOS includes a commitment to collaborate on several community projects in Hwange, fostering a partnership beyond football.
MWOS will maintain its home base and not relocate to Hwange, despite the franchise acquisition. The upcoming PSL season promises to be a thrilling contest as teams vie for honors.
