CG Mutamba’s Leadership Decisions Under Unjust Scrutiny

Reports accusing Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba of corruption, nepotism, and engaging in party politics through team appointments have sparked controversy. These allegations, emerging after CG Mutamba assumed office on January 1, 2025, are unfounded and appear to be part of a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

Globally, it is standard practice for leaders in positions of authority to appoint teams aligned with their goals and vision. Whether in corporate or public sectors, leadership changes often lead to team restructuring to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. For instance, incoming presidents or CEOs often bring in new personnel to help achieve their objectives. To suggest that CG Mutamba’s actions are unusual reflects a lack of understanding of leadership dynamics.

The attack on CG Mutamba is intended to smear the appointing authority His Excellency President ED Mnangagwa as well. These campaigns have heated up in recent months. However these sustained attacks must be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.

The claims of corruption and nepotism must be dismissed for what they are—fabrications designed to discredit a leader working to achieve set goals. Zimbabweans should recognize these accusations as mere distractions and allow CG Mutamba to carry out his duties without undue interference
