Chimombe, Mpofu bail hearing date set

The bail hearing for fraud-accused duo Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu has been scheduled for January 3, 2025.

The duo was arrested last year for fraud involving the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme, falsely claiming to have secured 32,500 goats nationwide.

However, a verification by the Ministry of Agriculture revealed that the duo only had 4,208 goats worth USD 331,445, leading to the cancellation of the contract. They had fraudulently obtained USD 7,380,751, none of which has been recovered.

They have remained in remand prison after multiple failed attempts to secure bail.

In their latest application, the duo argue that changed circumstances now warrant their release on bail.
