The 2023 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) presidential election candidate, Nelson Chamisa, continues to cast himself as the perennial victim, accusing his former comrades of jealousy and failing to acknowledge that he is, in fact, the elephant in the room.
His unwavering supporters, who blindly glorify his leadership, remain oblivious to the glaring frailties that have plagued his political journey.
As a bona fide ZANU PF member, I cannot help but celebrate the blind loyalty Chamisa enjoys from his base. This unwavering support works to ZANU PF’s advantage, now and in the future. It is akin to fruit falling into a basket with no effort needed to collect it. However, it is perplexing to see educated and uneducated individuals alike captivated by this blind hero worship. Chamisa has alienated key opposition figures, including Douglas Mwonzora, Casten Matewu, Jonathan Moyo, Charlton Hwende, Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, Tapiwa Mashakada, Hopewell Chin’ono, Freeman Chari, Job Sikhala, Freddie Masarirevhu, Makomborero Haruzivishe, and Nkululeko Sibanda, yet he persists in believing that all these seasoned politicians are wrong while he alone is right.
The internal strife and endless bickering within the Western-sponsored opposition only serve to bolster ZANU PF’s position. As the opposition weakens itself through infighting and leadership failures, ZANU PF remains poised to lead Zimbabwe unchallenged. The fractious battles within the opposition not only expose their lack of cohesion but also neutralize any credible challenge they might pose to ZANU PF.
In fact, this disunity ensures that the party’s reign continues, unshaken, well into the foreseeable future. The destructive neo-imperial designs that often underpin opposition politics will falter, and ZANU PF’s revolutionary legacy will endure, perhaps even beyond the year 3000.
