President Mnangagwa’s Recognition of the Warriors’ AFCON Qualification: A Triumph for Zimbabwe

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s heartfelt celebration of the Warriors’ qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 has ignited a wave of national pride and unity.

Hosting the national football team at State House on December 3, 2024, the President’s recognition underscored his unwavering support for sports as a pillar of national identity and inspiration.

The Warriors’ qualification is a monumental achievement in Zimbabwe’s sporting history, symbolizing resilience, hard work, and unity.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Mnangagwa expressed that the team’s success extends beyond the football pitch, representing the aspirations of every Zimbabwean. He applauded their dedication, highlighting how their efforts have brought the nation together and inspired a renewed sense of hope.

As a token of appreciation for the team’s remarkable accomplishment, the President awarded each player US$6,500, acknowledging their contribution to uplifting the nation’s spirits. He also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting sports development in Zimbabwe, emphasizing that the Warriors’ success is a stepping stone toward greater achievements.

Zimbabwe’s AFCON qualification is more than just a ticket to one of Africa’s premier football tournaments—it is an opportunity for the nation to showcase its talent on the continental stage. With preparations for the tournament underway, the Government has allocated US$1 million to support the Warriors, as announced by Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube in the 2025 National Budget.

This funding reflects a serious commitment to empowering the team and ensuring they are well-prepared to compete in Morocco.

President Mnangagwa also highlighted the Government’s broader efforts to revitalize sports infrastructure. The ongoing refurbishment of Rufaro Stadium and the National Sports Stadium, including the installation of bucket seats, signals a new era for Zimbabwean sports.

These developments will not only enhance the country’s ability to host international matches but also provide a vibrant environment for fans to rally behind their team.

The President’s recognition of the Warriors is a testament to his administration’s vision of using sports as a unifying force and a driver of national pride.

By investing in infrastructure and providing financial support, the Government is laying the groundwork for sustained success in sports, fostering a culture of excellence that will inspire generations to come.

As the Warriors prepare to take on Africa’s best at AFCON 2025, they carry with them the hopes and dreams of an entire nation.

With unwavering support from the Government and the people, they have every opportunity to shine on the continental stage, making Zimbabwe proud and reinforcing the nation’s reputation as a rising force in African football.
