Key participants at the AGM included Air Zimbabwe’s CEO, Mr. Edmund Makona, officials from the Ministry of Transport, and representatives of the Mutapa Investment Fund, alongside government stakeholders. These discussions underscored a vision of resilience and innovation as the airline aims to amplify its footprint within northern Zimbabwe, making areas like Victoria Falls, Kariba, and Chirundu central to its regional strategy.

Mr. Makona attributed the airline’s renewed focus to lessons learnt during the challenging pandemic years of 2020–2022. He highlighted how the national carrier pivoted towards cargo services to counterbalance the sharp decline in passenger numbers caused by global travel restrictions.

As restrictions eased, Air Zimbabwe prioritized restoring routes essential for trade and tourism in the north, particularly given its strategic position as a gateway to the broader SADC region.

The relaunch of international routes is set to complement this regional connectivity. Northern Zimbabwe, home to world-class tourist destinations and vital economic corridors, will benefit immensely from the reestablished links to major global hubs.

These developments align with the government’s broader infrastructure and transport enhancement agenda, poised to integrate the region further into the global economy.

Key to this revival is collaboration with stakeholders, including the Mutapa Investment Fund, whose involvement ensures robust financing and sustainability for the airline’s growth. Their support demonstrates confidence in Air Zimbabwe’s ability to drive regional development and bolster northern Zimbabwe’s tourism, agriculture, and trade sectors.

Moreover, the airline’s planned expansion comes at an opportune time as northern Zimbabwe experiences increased interest from international investors and tourists.

Destinations like Victoria Falls—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—and the strategic Kariba Dam region will receive renewed focus, offering seamless travel experiences for both leisure and business travelers.

As Air Zimbabwe prepares for its next chapter, the northern region stands to benefit significantly.

Enhanced connectivity will attract more visitors, increase trade efficiency, and elevate Zimbabwe’s standing as a regional aviation hub.

With resilience and forward-thinking leadership, the national carrier is not just rebuilding but reimagining a brighter future for Zimbabwe’s skies.
