PSC to Host Landmark Retirement Conference for Public Sector Workers

The Public Service Commission (PSC) is set to host its first-ever Retirement Conference from December 4-6 at the Harare International Conference Centre. Themed “Embracing a New Chapter: Empowering Public Sector Workers for Retirement with Dignity,” the event represents a significant milestone in transforming the retirement experience for Zimbabwe’s public sector employees.

This high-profile gathering will bring together stakeholders from various sectors to address retirement planning, pension management, and post-retirement opportunities. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, the conference aims to ensure that public servants transition into retirement with dignity and comfort, reinforcing the government’s commitment to their well-being beyond active service.

A Step Toward Dignified Retirement

The conference aligns with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 of achieving an empowered upper-middle-income society. It underscores the Second Republic’s dedication to inclusiveness, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The PSC seeks to build a robust framework for retirement that enhances the welfare of public sector workers, ensuring they are not left behind in the nation’s journey toward prosperity.

Key objectives of the conference include:

Reviewing the retirement landscape in the public sector.

Sharing experiences and best practices to improve retirees’ well-being.

Identifying gaps and opportunities for better retirement planning.

Developing tailored retirement products for public servants.

Fostering stakeholder collaboration to enhance retiree welfare.

Supporting National Development Strategy 1

The initiative aligns with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) priorities, focusing on economic growth, health, social protection, and housing delivery. Stakeholders, including government ministries, parastatals, financial and estate planners, health insurers, and independent commissions, have been invited to contribute their insights and expertise.

State Service Pension Fund in Focus

President Mnangagwa’s recent State of the Nation Address highlighted the government’s intention to establish a State Service Pension Fund, a key agenda item at the conference. Once operational, the fund will ensure that eligible public service retirees receive a reliable monthly income, reflecting the government’s dedication to their financial security.

This inaugural conference is expected to lay the foundation for sustainable and dignified retirement solutions for public servants, marking a significant step toward a more inclusive and supportive public sector.
