Zimbabwe Revolutionizes Agriculture with the Launch of the Zimbabwe Online Agricultural College

Minister Masuka

Zimbabwe is charting a transformative path in its agricultural sector with the establishment of the Zimbabwe Online Agricultural College (ZOAC). Launched in April 2023 under the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, ZOAC is designed to empower farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs, and farm personnel with essential knowledge and skills to enhance productivity, profitability, and national food security.

This milestone initiative stands as a testament to the Second Republic’s commitment to driving innovation and inclusivity in agriculture.

In August, ZOAC reached a significant milestone with the enrollment of its ninth virtual class, reinforcing its mission of accessible education. The institution’s entry requirements—any three O-Levels, professional qualifications, or access to land—ensure that individuals from diverse backgrounds can participate, democratizing agricultural education. This inclusivity enables beneficiaries of the Land Programme and smallholder farmers to acquire critical farm management and business skills, bridging the knowledge gap that has long hindered agricultural development.

ZOAC’s programs, including the General Certificate and Executive Certificate in Agricultural Business Management, are tailored to equip students with practical expertise in areas such as farm operations, marketing, and entrepreneurship. By targeting smallholder farmers, who often lack formal training, ZOAC addresses their unique challenges, helping them optimize yields, navigate market complexities, and build resilience against climate change. These efforts contribute directly to strengthening Zimbabwe’s food security and agricultural economy.

A product of the Second Republic’s vision, ZOAC complements the country’s existing network of agricultural colleges. Its virtual platform is a pioneering model for modern education, enabling farmers to access training without leaving their farms. This approach not only empowers individuals but also fosters a new generation of agricultural professionals poised to drive innovation and sustainability in Zimbabwe’s farming sector.

As ZOAC continues to expand its reach, it stands as a beacon of progress, underscoring Zimbabwe’s dedication to uplifting its agricultural community and ensuring a brighter, food-secure future for the nation.
