Scottland FC gain promotion to PSL

Scotland 3

Black mambas 1

Mabvuku legislator, Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanya’s division one side Scottland Football Club gained promotion into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) after beating Black Mambas 3-1 at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

The Northern Region Soccer League title had to go to the wire as MWOS was also in contention to win the title.

In the end Scottland prevailed.

Veteran striker Ronald Pfumbidzai’s strike and a brace from Leeroy Mavhunga put the match to rest.

Yesterday’s win catapulted Scottland to an assailable 87 points. Scottland has to thank Black Mambas for the game that they played against MWOS at Morris Depot a month ago. Mambas played that game as if their life depended on that match and prevailed and it was advantage Scottland.

They derailed MWOS off the rails with that win.

From the first whistle Mambas were more offensive than the host before the penalty in the 27th minute after Mavhunga was fouled. That goal rejuvenated Scottland and saw the visitors fizzle out as the going got tougher.

Muvhunga doubled the scoreline with a shot before the break. Mambas pulled one.

The match attracted thousands of supporters from all corners of the country who wanted to be part of the history making team.

Herentals president Innocent Benza was among the crowd. He was the first to congratulate Sakupwanya for joining them into the PSL.

Three members of parliament now own football teams that will be playing in the PSL next season.

The other one is Farai Jere who owns the Green Machine, Caps United Football Club.

Sakupwanya praised Benza for supporting his cause throughout the season.

He also praised his team for clinching the title and ultimately promotion to the PSL.

Ealier he had promised his players a car each if they manage to get the ticket into the psl and on top of that a $10 000 each.

That means all the Scotland players are going to finish the 2024 year with two cars each after Sir Wicknell Chivhayo delivered Toyota Aquas to the team recently.

Thousands of supporters came to watch the match.

This was the biggest crowd witnessed yesterday at Rufaro stadium and surpassed PSL matches played at the stadium.recently.

The 2024 season is done and dusted. The 2025 season beckons for Scottland.
