Yadah Stars forward Khama Billiat has reversed his decision to retire from international football and announced his return to the Zimbabwe national team, the Warriors. Billiat, who is 34, initially retired from international football in November 2021 after a distinguished career that included stints with Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs. However, his impressive performances since returning to Zimbabwe have reignited calls from fans for him to rejoin the national team.
On Wednesday, Billiat met with the newly appointed Warriors coach, Michael Nees, and later confirmed his decision to come out of retirement. Speaking about his return, Billiat expressed his desire to contribute once more to Zimbabwean football, both locally and internationally. “I feel I still have something to give to Zimbabwean football, locally and internationally. I have been reflecting deeply, and I am convinced there is one chapter which remains unfinished – between Khama Billiat and the Zimbabwe national football team,” Billiat said. He added that he is ready to serve his country again and hopes to have a positive impact on the field.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has warmly welcomed Billiat’s decision. In an official statement, ZIFA announced Billiat’s inclusion in the Warriors squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Kenya and Cameroon in September and October. ZIFA credited Billiat’s return to the national team to successful discussions between the forward and Coach Michael Nees.
Billiat’s return comes at a crucial time as Zimbabwe prepares for the AFCON 2025 qualifiers. Since joining Yadah Stars, Billiat has been in exceptional form, leading the Castle Lager Premier League scoring charts with 10 goals. His inclusion in the squad is expected to boost the Warriors’ chances of qualifying for the tournament, which will be held in Morocco next year.
