Delegates attending the 44th SADC Summit had a memorable visit to Kuimba Shiri Bird Park, a premier destination for Zimbabwean tourism located on the picturesque shores of Lake Chivero, about 25 kilometers west of Harare.

The day’s activities began with a delightful lunch at one of the park’s two restaurants, offering breathtaking views over the lake. The delegates then explored the park’s rich biodiversity, encountering an impressive array of wildlife, including over 660 bird species, horses, zebras, and four Huacaya alpacas.

Gary Stafford, the park’s owner, shared insights into his efforts to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned, abandoned, and injured birds. He noted, “Lake Chivero is recognized as one of Zimbabwe’s RAMSAR sites by UNESCO, highlighting its global significance in wetland conservation.”
The visit concluded with a photo session at various scenic spots throughout the park, allowing delegates to capture the stunning landscapes and vibrant wildlife.

This visit underscores the growing appeal of Zimbabwe as a tourist destination. By showcasing its rich natural heritage and commitment to conservation, Zimbabwe is positioning itself as a hub for eco-tourism and sustainable travel. The positive experience at Kuimba Shiri Bird Park not only highlights the country’s diverse attractions but also promotes its capacity to offer unique and engaging experiences for international visitors. This aligns with broader efforts to boost tourism and highlight Zimbabwe’s natural beauty on the global stage.
