Regional Unity on Display at ZDF Day Celebrations

During the 44th Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) Day celebrations at Rufaro Stadium in Harare, President Emmerson Mnangagwa highlighted the strong regional bonds by welcoming defence force members from Zambia, Malawi, and South Africa. He celebrated their presence as a symbol of enduring solidarity and cooperation within the region, especially in the military sector.

President Mnangagwa emphasized that the historic ties between SADC member states, strengthened during the liberation struggles, continue to unite the nations. These connections were crucial in Zimbabwe’s fight for independence and democracy.

The Ministry of Defence, alongside Mozambican partners, is working on a monument and healthcare facility in Mozambique’s Massinga District to honor General Josiah Magama Tongogara, a revered National Hero. This project represents the deep bond between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, acknowledging shared experiences and mutual respect.

Additionally, Zimbabwe has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Angola to construct a monument and preserve mass graves of fallen heroes in Angola. This initiative highlights the enduring solidarity between Zimbabwe and Angola, reflecting their shared history of liberation.

President Mnangagwa also expressed gratitude for the support from international allies, including China, Russia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan. Their assistance in defence and security has significantly strengthened Zimbabwe’s capabilities.

Looking ahead, Zimbabwe aims to deepen its strategic partnerships and embrace a foreign policy of “Friendship to all, Enmity to none.” The country remains committed to diplomacy and dialogue, fostering international cooperation and peaceful coexistence for future generations.
