ED, a Democrat, Statesman

The opposition has launched an unprecedented character assassination of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, labeling him a cruel tyrant. Anti-government activist Hopwell Chin’ono leads the incendiary attacks, referring to Mnangagwa as “CrookED.” Chin’ono’s main issue with the President is that the state has thwarted their planned protests by arresting opposition activists ahead of the SADC Summit. Miscreants like EFF leader Julius Malema have joined in, casting aspersions against President Mnangagwa and SADC.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s democratic credentials are beyond reproach. He has a constitutional mandate to ensure that peace and tranquillity prevail before, during, and after the SADC Summit. Security systems, as outlined in the country’s Constitution, require the Security and Judicial sectors to maintain law and order. The fact that SADC allowed Zimbabwe to host the Summit and appointed Mnangagwa as Chairperson is a testament to his statesmanship and leadership.

President Mnangagwa won the 2023 Presidential election decisively, leading his main rival, Nelson Chamisa, to retreat from the political scene. This is how democracy functions. Mnangagwa, a notable statesman, will undoubtedly lead SADC to prosperity. However, the opposition and their western sponsors must understand that while Mnangagwa is a democrat, he will not tolerate violent protests—they will be crushed to ensure peace in the country. A few sore losers should not be allowed to plunge the country into chaos through spiteful politics.

Zimbabwe will host the SADC Summit, and President Mnangagwa will be the Chairperson. All the infrastructure built in preparation will benefit Zimbabweans. Anarchists will face imprisonment. #ZimSadcSummit
