Industrialise: President Urges SADC

In his keynote address to the SADC Industrialization Week on 31 July 2024, President E.D. Mnangagwa urged the SADC region to industrialize and stop exporting unprocessed goods. He emphasized that with unity of purpose, the SADC region could achieve rapid socio-economic development and a higher quality of life.

President Mnangagwa’s call for industrialization is a welcome development that could inspire the region to follow suit. An industrialized SADC would create employment, thereby improving the quality of life for individuals and their families. By adding value to natural resources and manufacturing goods locally, SADC countries can boost economic growth, create jobs, increase export earnings, reduce dependence on external markets, develop domestic industries, enhance regional integration and trade, improve living standards, and reduce poverty.

This forward-thinking approach by President Mnangagwa, the incoming SADC Chairman, is expected to propel the region into a new era of economic prosperity, self-sufficiency, and global competitiveness. His leadership and commitment to industrialization will undoubtedly inspire and drive meaningful change in the region, catalyzing a transformative shift towards sustainable economic growth.

The President’s vision will inspire innovation and entrepreneurship, foster creativity, drive investment in key sectors such as manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure, enhance regional cooperation, empower local communities by creating jobs and opportunities, encourage knowledge sharing and skills development, attract international partnerships, and leave a lasting legacy of economic prosperity for future generations.

Through his expected SADC Chairmanship, President Mnangagwa aims to ignite hope and progress, leading the region towards a brighter, more industrialized future and cementing his place as a champion of African economic transformation.
