
Cabinet has approved a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development and Chirundu Border Consortium to upgrade and modernize the Chirundu One Stop Border Post. This initiative, proposed by Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion, Honourable Prof. Mthuli Ncube, will be executed under a Build, Operate, Own, and Transfer (BOOT) model over a 20-year period.Chirundu Border Consortium, a Zimbabwean company, will lead the project with an investment of approximately US$66.8 million. The scope of work includes renovating existing border post infrastructure, constructing new buildings, weighbridges, roads, and parking areas, enhancing Information Communication Technology Systems (ICTS), improving traffic processing systems, and building staff housing.This upgrade aims to complement the improved efficiency at Beitbridge Border Post and the upgraded Beitbridge-Harare-Chirundu highway, positioning this route as the preferred North-South Corridor. It will enhance Zimbabwe’s connectivity within the region, benefiting from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by speeding up the movement of goods. Additionally, the project will create employment opportunities for local communities, contributing to economic growth and development in the area.
