On 6th July 2024, Hon Dr. T. A. Mavetera (MP), Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, launched the DIGITALIZE ZIMBABWE initiative at the Mashonaland West Provincial Expo in Karoi. This event underscored the government’s commitment to realizing a fully digitalized Zimbabwe by 2030, as envisioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The DIGITALIZE ZIMBABWE expo, a nationwide campaign, aims to accelerate the country’s digital transformation. It showcases the latest advancements in information and communication technologies (ICTs) and brings together industry leaders, innovators, policymakers, and the public to explore the potential of digital solutions in driving economic growth, improving public service delivery, and enhancing the quality of life for all Zimbabweans.
In addition to the expo, the ROVING ICT EXPO will travel across the country, ensuring that the benefits of digital transformation reach even the most remote and underserved communities. This mobile expo is designed to promote digital inclusion by providing opportunities for citizens in rural and peri-urban areas to engage with advanced technologies, learn new digital skills, and harness the transformative power of ICTs.
Karoi was chosen as the launch site for these initiatives, representing the diverse mix of urban and rural communities in Zimbabwe. The launch event in Karoi is expected to serve as a catalyst for digital transformation across the nation, igniting enthusiasm for innovation and a renewed commitment to ensuring no Zimbabwean is left behind in the digital age.
The DIGITALIZE ZIMBABWE and ROVING ICT EXPO initiatives symbolize the government’s resolve to create a future where technology empowers every citizen, from bustling cities to remote villages. These efforts are set to drive economic growth, improve the quality of life, and pave the way for a prosperous and inclusive Zimbabwe.
