School Bus Collision with Train Injures Twelve Children in Mutare

Twelve school children were injured on Wednesday morning in Mutare when their school bus was struck by a train at the Wilton Level Crossing. The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) issued a statement advising caution and expressing concern for the injured.

“A bus carrying school children was hit by a train at the Wilton Level Crossing in Mutare this morning. Twelve pupils were injured and taken to hospital where they are receiving treatment. Our prayers are with them as they get on the road to recovery,” said the NRZ statement.

The accident was attributed to the driver of the Versatile Academy school bus failing to stop at the level crossing. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

This incident underscores ongoing safety concerns at rail level crossings, where accidents continue to endanger lives due to drivers ignoring road rules mandating stops at these crossings.

The injured children are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. This follows another recent collision between a train and a bus at the Paisley level crossing in Harare, resulting in a fatality.

Authorities urge all drivers to exercise caution, adhere strictly to road rules, and prioritize safety to prevent such tragic accidents.
