All is set for the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) which will be held at the 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale, Harare this Saturday.
Organisers are confident of a memorable show with various artists set to be honoured for their contribution to the development of the music industry.
ZIMA Executive Director Fungai Zvirawa gave an insight into what to expect alongside prizes for fans who vote for the song of the year.
“We are geared up for this weekend. We are looking forward to a star-studded affair. We have got some of the categories where people get a chance to vote for some of the artists. We have the song of the year category where people get some money. What people have to do is send an SMS for their favourite artist,” said Zvirawa.
For the first time this year, the Winner of the Best Alternative Award will be performing at Africa Conference for Collaborations, Exchange and Showcases (ACCES) which will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from the 9th to the 11th of November where musicians from across the continent are expected to perform.
Ano Shumba of Music in Africa said, “As part of the tenth anniversary of the Music in Africa Foundation, we have partnered ZIMA for this year. So that the individual will perform in Tanzania. The partnership is to promote the African music industry. Zima also falls in the same category and the winner of that category will be performing at ACCES.”
Meanwhile, Saintfloew, Leo Magoz, Freeman, Feli Nandi and Gemma Griffiths are leading the nomination list and winners will be announced this Saturday during the awards event running under the theme: “Re-Imaging the Industry”.
